In earlier times, Sint-Pietersberg was used as a way to smuggle food, such als butter and sugar, from Belgium to the Netherlands.
In Sint-Pietersberg there is a labyrinth of caves with a total length of 200 kilometre. These caves can still be visited.
The Sint-Pietersberg originated from the chalk age. Skeletons of innumerable sea animals that lived and died during that era piled up to become a large plateau.
